Deck repairs were completed on April 16, 2014.
Approximately 100,000 sf of the concrete bridge deck was replaced. Full depth removal of the existing concrete deck was accomplished via hydro-demolition. The repairs were done using high performance, crack resistant concrete.
Additional areas are being evaluated for possible repair in the near future.
Restriping from the Halawa Interchange to the Pearl City off-ramp will provide a shoulder lane for the PM peak periods.
Widening of the Pearl City viaduct to create an additional lane from the Pearl City on- and off-ramps to connect with the previous improvements along the Waimalu viaduct.
Widening the pavement areas along the H1 (Westbound) from the H1/H2 split toward Waikele to provide an additional lane.
All together, this work will provide an additional lane from Aiea to Waikele.
Installation of a PM Contraflow Zipper Lane will be re-evaluated after the completion of the new lane. If traffic flow improves, the new contra flow lane may be put on hold to save both construction funding and annual operational costs. This timing also helps to accommodate construction of the new Honolulu Rail Transit structures crossing over the H1 lanes near the H1/H2 split.
Daytime lane closures: Monday through Friday, 10:30 am to 2:30 pm.
Night time lane closures: Sunday through Thursday, 7:30 pm to 4:30 am
